Five for Friday: Summer Edition!

June 26, 2015 9 Comments
With a busy weekend ahead, I’m excited to sit back and relax on this quiet Friday morning!  I have just wrapped up my first week of summer and I can basically describe my summer so far in a few words: sleep, coffee, yoga pants, blog, dog, repeat.
I saw this on Pinterest the other day and had to share it on Instagram because it is so appropriate!
This has quickly become my summer wardrobe.  Did I just wake up?  Did I just leave the gym?  I’ll never tell!  I hope my fellow teachers out there are able to enjoy the same kind of summer attire and relax!
Anyway, let’s recap the week with Kacey over at Doodle Bugs Teaching with my favorite Five for Friday linky party!
My friend Diana and I have been loving our weekly Tell All Tuesday link up!  It’s been so much fun getting to know so many other bloggers each week and reading about your lives in and out of the classroom.  This week our theme was all about what’s on our Teacher Bucket List and it was amazing to see how similar some of our goals were.  I truly believe this little community of teachers and bloggers are some of the most supportive people I’ve ever come across and with each comment I believe it even more.  One big teacher blogger family RCA trip?!  Here we come!  If you didn’t have a chance to link up with us, no worries!  The linkup is open until Sunday or you can stop by next week for our next theme!
On that note Teachers Pay Teachers mentioned our link up and shared a photo of mine from my classroom this week on Facebook and Instagram!  I am so honored and excited to have been mentioned by such a wonderful company who has helped to form this community.

I may or may not have screamed and started cheering when I saw both posts! My husband tries to get excited too but he doesn’t fully understand how big a moment that is for a little TpT seller and blogger.  Neither does Roger, he just looks at me like I’m crazy!

I’ve been wanting to share a little bit more about my brag tags that I used in the classroom this year so when I saw Marie’s at Once Upon a Classroom: A Teacher’s Tales new linky party, Summer Share & Prepare, I knew it was the perfect place to talk about them!  Head on over to my previous post and read more about how I used my Operation Character Counts Brag Tags for positive reinforcement this year.  My packet is on sale in my TpT store here through the weekend!
As my first week of summer comes to a close, I’ve entered into a SLIGHT TpT creation slump.  I’m hoping that this new product that I’ve started to make for my first grade team will help inspire some creativity.  First comes the cover then the rest will magically roll off my fingertips!  Here’s to wishful thinking!
We’re adopting the new Houghton Mifflin Journeys Common Core series but doing a LOT of tweaking of it.  No reading series should be a one fits all type of thing right?!
We’re incorporating Words Their Way AND the Word Study program that Journeys offers for our first graders.  It’s going to be a big job but I’m working to merge the two and offer different sorts for each story in this newest pack along with different reusable word work activities and schedules.  If this is something you would like to use in your classroom, I’d love to hear from you and some things you’d like to see!
My husband and I celebrated our three year anniversary on Tuesday.  He’s my best friend, favorite fellow reality TV show watcher, and biggest cheerleader. Our wedding was magical and I love looking at this picture from our first dance.  Even though my husband wanted us to dance to “Forever,” by Jesse and the Rippers (yes that is a Full House reference, he’s a huge fan!) we decided against it.
I love this picture because my husband has a beautiful singing voice but refuses to share it!  He sang to me while we danced and I couldn’t help smiling from ear to ear.
Embarrassing confession here, I am petrified of lakes.  It stems back to my childhood where I spent 6 summers at a sleep away camp in Pennsylvania and was forced to jump into the icy cold waters at 7:30 am every day.  I hated seeing the little snakes and spiders that lived in the water and would hang onto the dock for dear life.
The weirdest part is that I LOVE to swim!  Put me in a pool or the ocean and I am right at home.  But, the lake?  No thank you!  It might also have to do with the not being able to see the bottom of the lake issue that really makes me nervous.
Why am I bringing this up?  Well, my husband’s aunt has a lake house in upstate New York and we’ll be traveling there for the Fourth of July next week.  I’m hoping to muster some strength and be able to swim freely in the lake with the rest of the family but I could use some positivity sent my way!  Are you a lake lover and can tell me to SNAP OUT OF IT?!  I think I could really use that right about now!
I’m a bridesmaid in a wedding this weekend for my childhood neighbor and I can’t wait to celebrate with family and friends!  I hope you all enjoy your weekends and are relaxing so far this summer!  Thanks for stopping by!  I’ll be hanging with this love bug for the rest of the day, enjoy!

Happy Anniversary. I grew up going to my grandparents' lake home every summer for vacation so I am definitely a lake girl. But when on vacation I totally prefer the pool to the beach!

My guy doesn't understand the hugeness of that stuff either. I've just now gotten him to at least say, "That's cute," when I show him something. Don't worry, I squealed for you when I saw your posts on TpT. I had some writer's block too right after summer started. It's beginning to come back and I'm sure yours will too. šŸ™‚ Have a fun trip.

Happy Anniversary! I hope you were able to celebrate in style!! Huge congratulations for the TPT shout outs, that's so awesome! I love your Tell All Tuesday link up!! I can understand a creativity slump, sometimes you just have to step away for a moment or three and things start to come to you! I totally understand about your lake fears, I myself have an irrational fear of sharks in the ocean. I'll go into the ocean but I'm never really comfortable, I always feel like I'm about to dive right on top of a huge shark!! Good luck with your lake trip, try wading in first and hand out in the shallows, see if that helps. Hey, at least there's no sharks!! šŸ™‚
Thanks so much for sharing so many awesome things about you with us! I hope you have an amazing week!!

    Warmest Wishes,

    Hi Friend,

I know I have already said this, but I am so proud of all your shout outs this week! Well deserved. I love the cover to your next product. It sounds like it is going to be a great pack. I hate to tell you, but I can't offer any positive vibes about the lake. I am similar to you in that it freaks me out. I do not like swimming where I cannot see the bottom. I hope that you are able to overcome your fear though and can jump right in! Perhaps just think of it as the ocean?! Have a great time at the wedding this weekend!

I am also terrified of lakes, so I feel your pain. If I can't see where I'm swimming, then don't expect me to get in! Put me in a pool and I'll swim all day, though! Good luck!!!

Hi Jayme – First of all, that is the SWEETEST thing that your husband sang to you as you danced at your wedding! Happy Anniversary! šŸ™‚ I have to admit, I love Full House too! I love your character posters… I think that's so important! And, congrats on the TPT shout-out! It's much deserved. I love the linky you and Diana have going!
