Is Bunk’d a Good Show for Kids?

Our Family Review Using the Giggle, Kindness & Cool Meter!

Mom’s Review of Bunk’d: Is It a Good Show for Kids?

When it comes to finding a show that’s fun, safe, and actually enjoyable for both kids and parents, the struggle is real. As a mom, I’m always looking for something that balances clean content with humor and heart. So we recently gave Disney Channel’s Bunk’d a try—and here’s how it scored on our Giggle, Kindness & Cool Meter!

But First—Why Does It Matter?

Ages 6 to 9 are such a special (and sensitive!) stage. Our kids are soaking up everything. They’re learning how to treat others, how to talk, how to problem-solve—and yes, a lot of that comes from what they see on screen.

As moms, it’s important that we choose shows that model kindness, curiosity, respect, and creativity. We’re not just managing screen time—we’re curating what’s shaping their little hearts and minds.

Here’s what I personally look for in a quality show for this age group:

  • Clean language that doesn’t encourage backtalk or sarcasm

  • Characters who treat each other well—or learn how to

  •  Positive messages and lessons kids can apply in real life

  • Fun and imagination that inspires play, not passivity

So… how did Bunk’d hold up on our Giggle, Kindness, & Cool meter?

Language Use – ★★★★☆

Let’s start with language. Bunk’d keeps it clean! No bad words, no grown-up slang, and nothing that had me cringing. You might hear things like “What the heck?” or “Ugh, seriously?!”—but overall, it’s harmless and playful. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because once in a while the tone gets a bit too dramatic or whiny for my taste, but nothing inappropriate.

Friendship & Kindness – ★★★☆☆

This one is a little more mixed. While Bunk’d features great examples of teamwork and kids figuring out how to get along, it also leans heavily on goofy pranks, rivalries, and exaggerated “mean” behavior (for laughs). Usually, there’s a resolution, but I docked a couple stars here just because I’d love to see more consistent kindness modeled, especially for this impressionable age group.

Lessons Learned – ★★★★☆

There are solid takeaways in most episodes—about being honest, including others, trying your best, and owning your mistakes. Sometimes the lessons are right up front, other times they’re tucked behind the humor. But they’re there, and they make great little conversation starters after the show ends.

Fun Factor – ★★★★★

Total hit in our house! From silly skits to over-the-top camp chaos, Bunk’d had my daughter giggling nonstop. The outdoor adventure setting gives it a refreshing, playful feel—and bonus: it inspired some creative pretend play afterward (think: “Camp Kikiwaka” set up in our living room with s’mores made out of cotton balls). Major mom win.

Final Thoughts:

Bunk’d isn’t a perfect show, but it’s a really solid pick for kids in the 6–9 range. It balances clean fun with just enough heart and teaches some good lessons along the way. If you’ve got a kid who loves camp vibes, big personalities, and harmless mischief, this one is a safe bet.

Would I recommend it? Yes—with a side of mom awareness. Watching with your child (even occasionally) and chatting about what happened helps them absorb the good stuff and work through anything confusing.

Final Rating: A happy camper-approved 4 out of 5 stars!
