April Pinterest Pick 3

April 3, 2015 4 Comments
I’m so excited to be joining my first Pinterest Pick 3 linky party hosted by Pawsitively Teaching and Inspired Owl’s Corner!  Pinterest might as well be a part of a teacher’s professional development hours, so I can’t wait to share my top pins for the month and then check back to their sites to see what other bloggers have chosen!  It was very hard to narrow down my choices to 3 but I can’t wait to try them all!

April is such a fun month in first grade!  Not only are you back from Spring Break refreshed and energized (hopefully) but the kids are so independent and able to explore more.  Things just start to click!  Here are my top picks for April.

My first pick to try in my classroom is in honor of both Earth Day and poetry month!  I think these “Plant a Poem, Plant a Flower,” crafts are just precious.  This would be a great way to tie in science and writing, I’m all about those cross-curricular connections!

I have admired the homemade heart crayons floating around Pinterest for Valentine’s Day for years, but I’ve never seen these Earth crayons!  I love the idea of taking older crayons that my students have used to death and reusing them to create something so helpful!  I would love to get my students involved in the process of making these and then capitalize on the Reuse, Reduce, Recycle aspect of this project!  Not to mention they would make adorable additions to our classroom!

With April comes the discussion of plants and flowers, after this winter I need a little life back in the classroom!  I loved this idea to bring soil layers to life with a fun snack!  It would be so great to discuss the different layers of soils, how soil helps plants, and then describe the soil layers with different foods.  The bonus always is the chance to eat it afterward!

I hope these Pinterest picks inspire you to create some new things for the month of April!  Make sure you visit the blogs of the other teachers who have linked up for more great Pinterest Picks for April!

I love the idea for Earth Day crayons! Perfect use for all those broken pieces and ties in so well to the idea of "reusing". Thanks for sharing!
