I can’t believe that after today Valentine’s Day parties and the 100th day will be over! I’m really looking forward to celebrating with my lovelies today! I’m excited for full day of meaningful activities infused with fun, spontaneity, and learning. HOWEVER, I’m slightly nervous that this all falls on Friday the 13th with a full moon. Y-I-K-E-S! Wish me luck! But before I begin my Friday craziness I want to share what else we’ve been up to this week!

We kicked off our week of learning with my new new Social Studies unit about Lewis and Clark. It corresponds with the Journeys Common Core story for Lesson 17. The story of the week is called The Big Trip, and it’s all about different ways to travel and what could go wrong with these modes of transportation. The kids have LOVED learning about traveling by land, air, and sea and are fascinated with Lewis and Clark’s journey. We will continue our study next week looking closer at Sacajawea’s influence on the expedition. The little brainpop jr. video above was a great way to start! If you use Journeys for your reading instruction or want to check out Lewis and Clark for yourself, you can find the packet here on my tpt store.

I just love love love Kelley Dolling over at teacher idea factory!! I consistently use her morning work packets and started breaking out her Punctuation has Personality packet from tpt. The kids have SUCH a great time learning the motions for each kind of sentence and we’ve been sorting, writing, and acting out our sentences ALL week! We’ll be working on a few more activities next week, especially rocking out to Ron Brown’s Intelli-Tunes 3 kinds of sentences song that comes with the packet!

We are knee deep in place value this week and oh my oh my those cubes are such necessary tools! We were working on showing numbers in different ways by decomposing and then breaking apart tens and wow did my babies struggle. We worked and worked with manipulatives for three days and I finally feel like we’re moving in the right direction! We did a lot of celebrating small successes!

In my previous post I wrote my ode to post-it notes. Oh do I love them! My SMART board is super fickle and one minute will let me write on it and the next completely ignores my requests =(. Wednesday morning my co-teacher snapped this photo of me finding an innovative (slightly crazy) way around the no writing on my SMART board problem. I know she thinks I’m nuts…this photo just goes to prove it! But hey the kids got the idea right?!

My husband and I decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day a few days early. We’re going away for the weekend with some friends but still wanted to celebrate just the two of us. We’re not fans of a big New Years Eve celebration so Valentine’s Day is a holiday I love to go all out for. We had a delicious dinner at a beautiful restaurant right on the Hudson. I have lived in NJ all my life but that skyline view never gets old!
I wanted to leave you all with a little valentine of my own, but I’ll let Ryan take this one…
Hope you have a great Valentine’s Day weekend and treat yourself to that glass like Ryan says š
